 JUNIOR KIDS JUDO CLASS

Our Junior Judo classes are for kids ages 6-10 and are for boys and girls. All classes begin with a warm-up period which includes various exercise to help build balance, strength, speed, and coordination.

After warm-ups we spend time working on different Judo  techniques such as throwing and ground grappling and safe falling Juniors are  taught most of the same techniques as adults but are not taught  the more dangerous choking and joint-locking techniques.

We also include numerous "Judo Games" along the way to allow the kids a chance to just have fun. The games are all designed  to be fun and challenging but to also help build mental and physical abilities. The kids have a great time.

In our classes we strive to maintain a friendly, cooperative atmosphere where everyone helps each other to learn and improve. And since Judo does not include punching and kicking  techniques many parents prefer it to other arts for their children.  Judo is great for dealing with many of the common "Bully on the Playground" techniques such as  grabbing, pushing and pulling and wrestling that kids sometimes encounter.

We feel that Judo is a wonderful way for children to grow  physically, mentally and socially and for that reason we include a healthy dose of Life Skills in our lesson plans. Each belt rank along the way has an accompanying Life Skills Focus for the Juniors  to talk about and work on. We want to be a part of the team, along with parents and teachers, and help our students to become confident, respectful, and productive members of the community.  

Junior Judo students are also given the opportunity to compete in Judo tournaments, but participation is not required to advance  in rank or to continue learning Judo.

 Judo for Kids

Judo is a perfect choice for children. Though it is a martial art, Judo emphasizes these two principles:

Maximum efficiency with minimum effort; and

Mutual Welfare and benefit for all

Therefore, though the child learns techniques that can be utilized for self defense, the main focus is cooperation and reason, not fighting. Judo teaches children to become comfortable in their growing bodies and to respect the places they live, work, and train. Judo also benefits a student's flexibility, physical endurance, self-confidence, concentration, and discipline.

Our classes are not only geared to the group. We assist each child with his or her individual needs, taking our students step by step through the art, and providing the tools necessary to succeed. This is especially true in our children's program. Our goal is not to push students from one belt to the next, but to help them achieve the skills and confidence to earn their rank.

Above all, Judo is FUN!

JUNIOR KIDS KARATE CLASS 

We emphasize the art of Karate not the sport.  Japanese language, culture and writing will be taught.  By teaching these attributes the child student understands the meaning of training.   I offer strict discipline through exercise.   There is absolutely no horse playing in our classes.  With over 2000 students taught by Sensei Henderson he has a very organized class.   We teach punches, kicks, blocks, stances and forms.  We do not stress fighting or competition.  New kids are seamlessly integrated into the program.  This is an ongoing class not a course.  New students can sign up anytime.  We accept boys and girls and class size is kept small.  All Classes as usual are taught personally by Sensei Henderson.  He does not allow any class to be taught unless it is by him.  You are in good hands.  If you are interested in having your son or daughter take class.  Please call and arrange a FREE trial class by calling Laura the school secretary and student.  217-721-5546

 $35.00 per child per month  (Initial payment to get started $155.00, first months dues plus uniform and yearly dues)

 USJI (usa-judo) United State Judo Incorportated...$60.00 per year ($50.00 dues, $10.00 administrative fee.)  This fee is mandatory for all Judokas (judo practitioner)
